Stencil tension meters operate on a simple principle of force deflection, offering a standardized, objective measurement that replaces subjective "feel". 

• Measurement: The device has a base with three contact points: a central sensor button and two outer supports.
  
• Force deflection: When placed on the stencil, the central plunger or button applies a calibrated downward force.
  
• Tension reading: The indicator mechanism measures the depth of the fabric's depression, translating it into a specific tension reading, typically in Newtons per centimeter (N/cm).
  
• Manual vs. Digital: Analog meters use a mechanical dial, while digital versions feature an LCD display for precise readings and can include data output options.

• Screen Printing: Ensures uniform tension across the mesh, which is essential for consistent ink deposition, sharp image quality, and print longevity. Over time, mesh can stretch, so regular checks help determine when a screen needs to be re-meshed.
• SMT Manufacturing: Provides a repeatable way to control solder paste printing, a crucial step in assembling printed circuit boards (PCBs). Consistent tension helps prevent defects like bridging and insufficient solder.
